Semenawa Research Meeting

SRM #14

Sunday Nov 2nd, 2025. 2:00-6:30pm

The 14th edition of the Semenawa Research Meeting (SRM) is returning for the final edition in 2025 to Bound Lark Rope Studio.

This year, one of the most profound and inspirational research topics appeared to be communication in Japanese kinbaku. We will revisit this objectively very broad topic during this meeting with a focus on synergy between hard and soft skills allowing for the dynamic balance between time and space.

The discussion will be led by Odys, Baka-sama, Violet and Kym, followed by two tying demos with Violet and Kym, illustrating how concepts of communications blend into a semanawa experience. The unique and intimate nature of this meeting would allow participants to discuss, observe and ask questions throughout the meeting, as well as taking photos during tying demos.

SRM is inspired by Naka sensei’s semenawa study group in Tokyo and held in the US with his blessing.

About the presenters:

Odys

Odys is kinbaku artist and educator who discovered the beauty of rope bondage eight nine ago, and has been deeply dedicated to it ever since. Initially inspired by the traditional Japanese style bondage, he has attended workshops with many world class presenters to find his path. He is the creator of KinbakuOdyssey studio and a direct student of Akira Naka sensei.

To Odys, kinbaku is a connective journey expressed through emotional transitions, evoked by progressive torment and power exchange. Each rope represents the catch and release of control. With each rope, he takes his partners on a journey of self discovery, exposing what they secretly crave. His unique expression of sensually erotic semenawa evokes sensations of pleasure and pain, ultimately pushing his partners to reveal their inner feelings and emotions to him.

Violet

Violet found rope early in her journey back in 2015. Unlike other kinks, it touched her in unexpected and transformative ways. She considers it these days to be an intentional and intimate dialogue between two people. She is passionate about self-reflection and an open-minded approach to exploration and a safe approach to challenging your edge.

As a bottom, she has attended as well as taught workshops, intensives and private classes. She has learned from a wide range from styles throughout the world, including Naka Akira, Iroha Shizuki, Kanna and Kagura, KinbakuLuXuria, Tenma Haru and Reika, Gorgone, Subay/Naoko, Mynx and Atelier Simonet. .She has taught several introductory rope classes and enjoys incorporating dominance in her play.

Kym

Kym is a rope bottom that has always had an interest in bondage. She began her rope journey in 2021 after meeting Odys. Rope has become a cathartic experience for Kym and she enjoys pushing herself to new limits while tying. Rope has evolved into a way for Kym to play with submission as well as express to herself emotionally and artistically.

Baka-sama

Baka-sama is an aspiring kinbaku artist that discovered rope in 2013 through the lens of American Rope Bondage. For years, rope was simply a novel bedroom tool. That changed in 2023, when he encountered the disciplined, emotionally charged world of Japanese-style shibari and kinbaku. From that point forward, his journey has been one with a foundational emphasis on intentional practice and he immersed himself in solo study and critical reflection. However, in the last year, that path has evolved into a focused devotion to semenawa, shaped by the influence of Naka Akira, studied under the instruction of @Odys. Since then, he has attended multiple intermediate-level workshops, engaged in private lessons, and attended lectures and discussion-based presentations centering around rope as expression, consequence, and psychological landscape. Today, Baka-sama continues to approach rope not simply as just performance or play, but as a discipline of presence.
