Work of Art
a live drawing event
Monday Feb 9, 7:00pm-10:00pm
We are thrilled to bring you a special drawing event at the start of the year from a beloved pair in our community. A word from them:
Stan and Velvetdive had been tying together for a year and a half when Velvetdive received a breast cancer diagnosis in April of 2025. The diagnosis was quickly followed by a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation. Her body changed dramatically over 8 months. The pair never stopped tying. They started with calf binders a week after surgery. Through his creativity and her trust, and their love for each other, they resdiscovered partial suspensions, full suspensions, Gote, hashira, and performances with friends. They also explored new frontiers about themselves, their bodies, and the power of their connection. They are grateful to Bound Lark Rope Studio and its community for providing a space to share what they have learned, and to return to what they love.
About Work of Art:
The human figure is one of the most enduring themes in the visual arts. We are inviting artists to join us for an evening of life drawing of a human figure in rope.
This event will give attendees an opportunity to contemplate how a human figure is expressed in rope bondage and capture it in their own artistic representation.
Curious observers are welcome to attend the event, however please note that priority seating will be given to artists.
Format:
Drawing sessions will be at the discretion of the top and bottom with breaks as needed by the presenters. During the session, there will be a handful of poses held between 3 minutes to 15 minutes. We will conclude the event with a discussion of your observation and creation.
Please note that your artwork could likely be incomplete given the time available. We ask that no photos be taken for privacy purposes and therefore you will not have access to a reference photo after the event. Your artwork is for your personal use only and may not be used in any commercial settings.

About kinbaku_kong:
When Stan discovered kinbaku in the summer of 2023, it consumed him. By October of 2023, he had built a hard point at his home. Stan began learning rope through rope shares and Shibari study, exploring his own preferences and tastes. In June of 2024, he and Velvetdive attended Semenawa Research Meeting 7, which dramatically impacted his rope journey. Stan began taking in-person workshops with Odys in July of 2024, and he has enjoyed learning with the community of other riggers and bottoms immersed in this style. Stan does not subscribe to any specific style wholesale; he finds beauty in the borrowing of different techniques to solve a problem, achieve a vision, and create feeling.

About Velvetdive:
Velvetdive has been in the grip of rope since 2023. She experimented with self-tying until she met Stan at a rope share in September of 2023, when she happily traded it for full time bottoming. With Stan, she has explored how rope gives and takes space, the layers of freedom in restraint, and the power of negotiated trespass. Rope has helped Velvetdive explore the nature of suffering, stripped of its performative glamour. She approaches semenawa with deference and gratitude; it is a primal thing, called by the rigger but arriving and occupying her body on her own terms. Since her diagnosis, Stan's rope has sustained her body and spirit, reminded her of her strength, and cherished her at every fractured moment of her journey.
