In most Japanese-inspired styles, chest harnesses – especially TKs – are a central element: practical, aesthetic, and an ideal way to connect with the person in ropes. When designing this workshop five years ago, I asked myself: how can we tie the hands in a creative way while maintaining technical precision, aesthetic consistency, and a clear dialogue with the person in ropes? Since then, I have taught this workshop many times, and these bondages have evolved through practice, repetition, and transmission, while new ties have gradually emerged. Particular emphasis will be placed on adapting these ties to different body types, so that each person can find what works best for them. Depending on the ties explored, participants’ level of experience, and their preferences, these bondages can be explored both in partial suspension and in full suspension.

Prerequisites:

  • Familiarity with each other as tying partners

  • Tops: must be comfortable tying with partial suspension.

  • Tops and bottoms: Knowledge of common rope risks and risk mitigation strategies

  • Tops and bottoms: ability to communicate well with each other regarding safety, preferences and adjustments

  • Bottoms must be used to partial suspension at the very least

  • Communication being a central element in shibari it is always preferable to come with a partner with whom you already practice in order to allow a good experience. It's important to have already discussed the framework of your practice (desires, intentions, limits, ways of managing consent)

Equipment:

  • Your own full rope kit

  • A minimum of 8-10 jute ropes (or hemp), ideally 6mm in diameter and averaging 7-8 meters in lenght will be required.

Logistics:

  • Tying pairs are limited to 6.

  • Break for lunch included in the time

Tickets:

  • $225 per pair + processing fees

For those new to the studio, please fill out this vetting form after you get your ticket so we can get to know you!

Presenter Bio:

Bänana, a ten-year bondage enthusiast, found her passion in shibari, drawn to its raw and authentic nature. As she has always been fascinated by the expression of emotion, shibari has opened up a new path of exploration to her. She began to folow Docvale’s teaching in November 2018, later partnering with him to co-manage Atelier Simonet in Paris until summer 2023. She opened her own rope studio in Paris in 2024 : La Cabäne. As an instructor, Bänana emphasizes understanding the reasons behind each technique, rather than rote learning. She believes in using these skills to enhance the connection with partners. With experience as both a rigger and a model, she is dedicated to teaching both roles, providing tools for a rewarding rope experience.

Bänana is a precise and demanding instructor regarding bondage technique. She considers that in order to tie wel, we must understand each of our technical choices rather than learning the instructions by heart. She gives to her students a solid grounding so they can feel free while tying and put these technical abilities at the service of the relationship with their partners.

Bänana's courses are so often highly interactive, with the idea that everyone should have a place to ask questions and express their experiences and feedback in order to grow together in this practice
