Playing the Long Game:

Slow-Burn Suspensions and Predicaments

with

Brooklyn and Hatman Jack

Aug 8-9, 2026 10:00am-5:00pm

Ready to explore the leg-shaky, melty goodness of the long game? This weekend intensive for experienced rope practitioners moves beyond the "how-to" of tying and into an exploration of gradual constriction and bondage. We will explore a style of play that emphasizes physical challenge and our emotional relationship to it, shifting the focus from the speed of the tie to the intensity of the stay through micro-transitions, body manipulation, and touch.

Through technical deep-dives and play exercises in both partial predicaments and full suspensions, we will bridge the gap between technical precision and emotional strategy. We’ll focus on how to use rope to create pressure and intensity, exploring the "slow burn" through improvisation and intentional stillness. This workshop will also discuss bottoming strategies for ties with gradual constriction and challenge. This class is best suitable for pairs with a strong grasp of suspension fundamentals and who are open to exploring play dynamics with their partners.

Presenter Bio: Hatman_Jack (he/him)

Hatman_Jack fell in love with rope as a means of emotional connection, vulnerability, exposure, pain, and rediscovering oneself. After years of flirtation with bondage, he began regularly suspension-bottoming in 2021, and shortly after that, he began tying others. When connecting with someone for rope, he strives to prioritize the person through consent and communication. He has demo-bottomed for classes at Ropecraft, Tethered Together, and DO Summer Camp, participated in rope bottoming roundtables in Durham, performed at Kakumei Kan Studio in Finland, and teaches beginner rope through Kink Practice in NC. When not doing rope, he loves nature, gardening, board games and ttrpgs, cooking, and circus arts.

Presenter Bio: Brooklyn (they/them)

Brooklyn is a Chicago-based rope switch and educator with experience on both the top and bottom sides of the slash. Their work focuses on the intersection of emotions, technical proficiency, and aesthetics. This curiosity has driven them to seek ongoing formal education, studying with a variety of teachers across Europe and the United States, primarily in Naka-inspired semenawa.

They aim to offer high-quality instruction on the functional aspects of rope while encouraging students to explore the deeper emotional and psychological motivations behind their practice. Their teaching approach blends technical precision with personal exploration, inspiring students to remain curious and approach rope in a more individualistic way. Brooklyn teaches private lessons at home and also has offered classes at Sakura Studios, the Tying Masc Bodies conference, and Tethered Together.

Prerequisites:

  • Tops:

    • Experience with partial and full suspensions lasting at least 15 minutes, experience with predicaments a plus

    • Comfort managing multiple uplines

    • Knowledge of one sustainable, suspendible upper body and one lower body harness by memory. Upper body harnesses should be able to be back-loaded.

    • Experience and comfort with replicating a pattern by memory in a class setting. Participants do not need to have preexisting experience with every upper or lower body harness used in a workshop (e.g. mermaid, monobloc/booty basket, futomomo), but should have sufficient comfort replicating patterns in a class setting that they are able to tie a suspension with a harness that is new to them.

    • Experience with bamboo lockoffs (top and bottom)

  • Bottoms:

    • Solid sense of body awareness, including the ability to distinguish between nerve impingement and circulation loss

    • Experience processing strong sensations in medium-to-long term suspensions (at least 15 minutes)

    • Ability to distinguish between “good” pain and “bad” pain

    • Willingness to sit with non-injurious discomfort

What to bring:

  • Notebook, pen, paper

  • Water

  • Full rope kit, natural or synthetic (e.g. 10+ full-length hanks of rope of at least 7 meters, plus assorted half and quarter ropes). This workshop will be taught using jute, and some principles may need to be adapted if using slippery or non-grippy materials such as nylon.

  • At least four full-length uplines suitable for suspension. If natural fiber, these must have minimal wear.

  • For tops: Clothing that allows large range of movement.

  • For bottoms: Clothing that allows large range of movement. Slippery or clothing that shifts under load is discouraged.
